“As women over 50, we have been conditioned to hurry, take care of everything for everyone and then, if we find ourselves with an extra moment in the day, maybe take a breath. But, the beautiful part about being over 50 is now, we can actually look forward to having more time in our lives for ourselves. Time to take care of ourselves, time to nurture our passions and time to spend with those we love.
So, if you had 60 minutes to spare and decided to spend it on discovering your ‘Second Act,’ how would you spend those 60 minutes?
Here are a few suggestions:
1. Take a few deep breaths and calm your mind. Taking a few moments to clear your mind and focus on the present moment will help you approach the next phase, opportunities, and purpose of your life with a clear and centered mindset.
2. Reflect on your personal goals and aspirations. Take some time to think about what you want to achieve in the next phase of your life and what your priorities are. They can be anything. Big or Small. Keep judgement and comparison out of your reflection. This time belongs to you, no one else.
3. Research and explore different opportunities. Spend some time looking online for different resources, tools, and programs that are designed specifically for women over 50. These could include new career paths, volunteering opportunities, educational courses, or ways to pursue my passions and interests. I started my real estate career when I was just shy of 50 and became a top 1% producer. With our life experiences, we can do anything.
4. Reach out and connect with other women over 50. Join Women’s W.I.N. It’s a great place to connect. Seek out groups or communities of women who are going through similar experiences and can offer support, guidance, encouragement, and perspective. These communities could be online, in-person, in your community, global…whatever resonates with you is the right community.
5. Write down your ideas and plans. Start a new ‘Second Act’ journal that is just for discovering and pursuing the ‘New you.’ Explore different opportunities and ideas, and as you write everything down, create a plan of action. Having a clear roadmap for your next phase of life will help you stay focused and motivated.
Overall, I think that approaching this next phase of life with an open mind and a willingness to learn and grow is essential. Networking with other women, integrating into your ‘tribe’ is vital. Also, by taking the time to reflect, research, and connect with others, you will discover exciting new paths and opportunities that will help you thrive in this next chapter of your life. So, the next time you have 60 minutes to spare, take it all for yourself. You might be surprised at how your Second Act can change the world.
